Practice Group Descriptions

JUNIOR DOLPHINS (Pre-Team): These swimmers are non-competitive and cannot swim by themselves. Coaches will be in the water, hands-on at all times. These swimmers are focusing on becoming comfortable in the water, blowing bubbles, splashing, getting their hair and face wet, floating on their backs, and getting accustomed to coaches' directions.

NOTE:  Junior Dolphins practices are ONLY offered when the swim team has exclusive use of the pool for practice. There will be no Junior Dolphin practice when the pool is open to the Kingsley members.

BLUE (Beginner): These swimmers are focusing on learning freestyle and backstroke. They are not yet able to make it across the pool for the full 25 without resting. They will practice swimming on their own to the wall or to coaches walking in front of them as opposed to being carried through the pool. Coaches will be in the water with the blue group swimmers at all times. These swimmers will participate in the Kingsley Mini Meets each Friday morning in June. The Mini Meets are intramural meets which allow the swimmer to gain confidence before participating in the full swim meets.

WHITE (Experienced Beginner): These swimmers can swim freestyle for the whole length of the pool without stopping. This group will focus mainly on freestyle and backstroke by increasing speed and improving technique. They will also be introduced to breaststroke and butterfly techniques. This group should know how to swim all strokes legally before moving up to the bronze group.

BRONZE (Intermediate): These swimmers are able to swim all four strokes. Stroke technique will be a focus with this group as well as aerobic conditioning. This level is introduced to flip turns and race dives.

SILVER (Advanced): These swimmers are able to swim all four strokes legally and are able to swim 50s of all strokes. These swimmers know how to perform starts and flip turns. The focus of this group will be on building stroke endurance with proper stroke technique. Swimmers will strive to improve all strokes and improve time standards.

GOLD (Expert): Swimmers in this group are accomplished swimmers with the ability to perform all four strokes efficiently, including accurate starts and turns. The focus of this group is training for the purpose of reaching the highest goals summer league has to offer. This group will continue to fine tune strokes, starts, and turns as well as speed and endurance.
